How often does a full moon fall on Friday the 13th? Not often I suspect and it had the students talking about all kinds of horror flicks. Another great day of sight-seeing before heading to the Reservation tomorrow. The pictures really say it all!

It hasn’t been three days on this service trip and I’ve learned so much from everyone on this trip. Coming on this trip, I was nervous and I didn’t know what to expect. Walking through the doors at the airport in Rapid City and having Jamie welcome me made me feel relieved and comfortable. I’m excited to see what’s in store for the rest of the week because if we’ve gotten along so well in the past two days, who knows how we build or relationship as a group. I’m not the most social girl in the group, but I’ve managed to slowly come out of my comfort zone and join conversations with others and share some of my stories. It has also been fun listening to other’s funny and random experiences they’ve had. I can’t wait to share my experiences with my family back home in Chicago and thank my parents for allowing me to come to South Dakota. I’m really grateful and I truly can’t wait for the next couple days on the reservation and learning about the Native American history.

Before I got to South Dakota I was very nervous and anxious because I had no idea what to expect. However, I know now that all of my worries about what to expect were pointless because so far these two days have been amazing. Meeting all new people from other Sacred Heart schools is very exciting and interesting. I think it is very cool that although we did not know each other before this trip, we have been able to create friendships so quickly because I think our roots being in the Sacred Heart Network brings us closer together. One of my favorite parts of this trip so far is discussing with the other students the differences and similarities between our schools. People always talk about how we have so many other Sacred Heart brothers and sisters outside our own school but to actually experience this first hand is incredible. I have enjoyed all of our experiences throughout these past two days including visiting Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and the Crazy Horse Memorial and I am extremely excited that we have six more days to continue to build on these experiences and friendships.
