Today was our last day with our host families. Everyone would agree that each family offered hospitality with a graciousness that comes only from the heart. They housed and feed us. They offered to take us around their town – to the church, the stores, to play soccer/basketball. The language barrier faded away amidst the friendly laughter and smiles. Our simple gifts hardly matched their generosity. We were glad when Community Links came by with a van full of food for each one of us to offer to our family.
After we said our goodbyes, we headed back to the field where we processed some of the wheat we harvested the day before. Threshing the wheat with large sticks for hours, then sifting it over and over again to separate the grain from the chaff offered all of us an insight in to this line from the Lord’s Prayer: “Give us this day our daily bread . . .” Such a powerful reflection that one student suggested we all say the Our Father, which we did.
